Using Letters to Revolutionize Your Writing 

What’s more intimate than a poem? A poem written as a letter! In this generative workshop, led by award-winning poet and educator Kelly Grace Thomas, you will learn how to use the art of epistolary (letter writing in poetry) to unlock even the most unruly of subjects and drafts. These sure-fire, replicable techniques will help you step out of your comfort zone by using the direct address to unlock surprise, vulnerability, and intimacy. As Agha Shahid Ali said, “The world is full of paper. Write to me.”

In this workshop, participants will: 

• Use the epistolary form to tighten their argument 

• Examine how tone affects intimacy and perspective 

• Find focus through the use of a single audience 

• Use letter writing to form a dialogue of subtext
